Labor Day Sunday

Half lit morn,

Cicada chorus.

In the woods,

an owl trills soprano.

Down valley,

the rooster calls

in mournful tenor.

A bat flutters ’round the yard

searching his last supper.

And in the sky,

a sliver of moon

over rising thunder clouds,

one shaped like

horse and rider.

May He come quickly.
